On holiday with your baby
Planning a holiday with a baby can be challenging. How do you go on a safe, comfortable and enjoyable holiday (and trip)? Today we will give you tips.
What is a good holiday destination for a baby?
In fact, you can go anywhere with your baby. Whether you go on holiday in your own country, a holiday in Europe or a real trip far away; it is all possible. The only question is whether you feel comfortable with going on holiday far away or not. Many parents like to spend their first year with their baby in their own country. Other parents can't wait to go on holiday with for example their 4 month old baby. Keep in mind that as parents you will have to adjust to the rhythm of your baby.
Holiday preparation
When you choose a spot for your holiday, it is good to already pay close attention to the facilities on your holiday. Is it a safe environment for your child? Are cribs available for rent? Is there any air conditioning available so the room can be cooled before you go to sleep? Is there a baby bathtub? In short, is it babyproof? Make a list of your needs and then choose the accommodation accordingly. You can also find out if vaccinations are required for your holiday destination.
What to bring on your holiday?
Whether you are taking a 4 month old on holiday or a 6 month old on holiday, it is helpful to make a checklist in advance. This may include the following:
- Baby formula
- Bottle and pacifier
- Diapers and wipes
- Care products
- Changing mat so you can change your child anywhere
- Hydrophilic towels and washcloths
- Clothes
- Possibly special sun protection (UV) clothing
- A sun hat
- Sun cream
- Wet wipes for the face
- Toys and favourite cuddly toys
- Nice music
- Baby carriage with parasol
- Swimming straps
- Swim diapers
- First aid kit
Arrived
Once you arrive at your destination, your child may have already had a long trip and a messy day of travel. Resume your daily schedule immediately. Of course, you can deviate from this during the holidays, but your child will still need the same amount of sleep. Try to keep the same schedule as your child is used to at home.
Heat and sun
Make sure your child is getting enough fluids and keep an eye on the number of wet nappies. You can also read our blog with 5 tips to help your child to consume more water.
