How to keep your baby cool in hot weather

Did you know that babies are highly sensitive to heat? Today, we're sharing practical tips to help you keep your baby cool and comfortable during hot weather!

How to dress baby in hot weather?

Dress your baby lightly on warm days, preferably in just one layer, such as a onesie and diaper. Choose breathable, comfortable fabrics like cotton. You can easily check if your baby needs an extra layer by feeling their arms and legs. Babies have a harder time regulating their body temperature, so it's better to opt for one layer less rather than more.

Feeding your baby in warm weather

In hot weather, your baby needs extra fluids. You can give your baby an additional 5-10 cc of water along with their baby formula. If you're breastfeeding, drink an extra 700-1000 ml of fluids and nurse your baby more frequently. If your baby has enough wet diapers and is lively, they are getting enough fluids. Keep a close eye on the number of wet diapers.

Keeping your baby in the shade

Always keep your baby in the shade and never in direct sunlight, as their skin is very sensitive. Even in the shade, apply sunscreen with a high SPF to your baby, since they can still get sunburned. Shade protects against the sun, but not completely, about 20 to 30 percent of UV rays are reflected off surfaces like walls, water, and sand. A parasol offers some protection but doesn't block all radiation. So, it's crucial to protect your baby with sunscreen even in the shade. Choose products without irritating ingredients like perfumes and parabens. When taking a walk with the stroller, keep in mind that it can get stuffy under the canopy. It's better to lower the canopy to allow fresh air in and use a parasol to shield your baby from the sun.

How to keep baby cool in hot weather at night

Dress your baby lightly for bed as well, a onesie with a thin sleeping bag or a light blanket is often sufficient on warm days. Keep the curtains closed during the day to prevent the baby's room from heating up too much. A temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius is ideal for the nursery. Ensure proper ventilation as well.
